Melbourne in Summer

For the past working week i've been in Telstra's labs in Melbourne. I have to say Melbourne is much more pleasant in summer than winter! The days are longer than Sydney, and humidity much lower. I still managed to get rained on, however it's not nearly so bad when it's mild. Must remember to take my umbrella with me for the next two weeks. I'll be attending the Australian Open Tennis on Monday/Tuesday week with Scott - should be great! I was worried we might finish before then, but the past week shows nothing ever finishes ahead of schedule!

I've finally selected Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 6.0 as my HDV editor. It's going to take me ages to learn the ropes, and i'm already out of HDD space, even though i've only captured 26mins of footage. Don't expect material anytime soon from the VirtualWebby production house :-)

Me thinks you need a file server... and even that will never be enough - "Duvel" has around 500GB hard disk space and is currently around 85% full :) That is without a HD video camera ;-)

Yeah i think i need a gig per minute of HDV, so for 6 hours of footage, that equates to almost 400GB. Then i need a backup, just in case the drive fails after 100HRS of effort, that would hurt! So at least two of them for "works in progress", then an actual file server which keeps the finished products, of which redundancy would also be wise, although i suppose DVD backups might do. So yeah, an expensive hobby!
