Great Victorian Adventure
We are back! What a great trip it was. Kerri did a great job with our scheduling, and we managed to see everything we possibly could in the limited time we had. We spent a night in Albury, 3 nights in Geelong with my grandparents, 2 nights in Apollo Bay, 2 nights in Warrnambool, 2 nights at Hall's Gap in the Grampians, and one night at Mount Beauty in the Victorian Alpine Region. There were many highlights, including a great day exploring the most popular features along the Great Ocean Road, however in all the excitment i forgot about sunscreen - ouch!
I have plenty of HDV footage, most of which will hit the cutting room floor. Attempting to learn "on the job" is difficult when one does not have access to HDTV equipment. I did, however, learn two important lessons very quickly:
- Stock up on high quality Mini-DV tapes BEFORE leaving the city!
- Stock up on high quality Mini-DV tapes BEFORE stocks run dry during holiday periods!
I'm hoping the penalty for learning these lessons are not too harsh on this newbie, as it's a little late to go back and shoot lost footage.
Anyway, hopefully have something to view in the next few weeks. First step is to buy a Firewire cable, and then finding the perfect HDV-capable digital video editing software - OK i might have to let my standards slip until these "perfect" packages become affordable. I'm not even sure my PC will be up to the task! What an expensive hobby this may turn out to be. Will keep you posted on any developments ...
